Crane hand signals.

The standard mobile-crane signals (ASME B30.5, the chart OSHA points to), drawn plain and moving the way the real signal moves. One designated signal person on the job. Anybody can give the emergency stop, and the operator stops, no questions.

Hoist

Forearm straight up, finger pointing up, move the hand in small circles.

Lower

Arm down and out, finger pointing down, move the hand in small circles.

Use main hoist

Tap your fist on your head, then give the hoist or lower signal.

Use whipline

Tap your elbow with the other hand, then signal as usual.

Raise boom

Arm straight out to the side, fist closed, thumb pointing up.

Lower boom

Arm straight out to the side, fist closed, thumb pointing down.

Move slowly

Hold one hand still above the hand giving the motion signal.

Raise boom, lower load

Thumb up, arm out, open and close your fingers while the load moves.

Lower boom, raise load

Thumb down, arm out, open and close your fingers while the load moves.

Swing

Arm straight out, finger points the direction the boom should swing.

Stop

Arm out, palm down, swing the arm back and forth.

Emergency stop

BOTH arms out, palms down, swing them back and forth. Everything stops now.

Dog everything

Clasp your hands in front of your body. Pause the job, hold everything.
